Choosing the right grade and finish for your Wooden Floor

V4 have Three different Grades of timber, each having different characteristics.

AB Select / Nature Grade

Planks are selected to give grain and colour variation. There can be a small amount of light sapwood around the edge of the board. Small sound knots and smaller filled knots add to the natural effect.

ABC Mixed Grade

Popular in species such as Walnut. This grade shows more variation in grain and colour, with larger sound and filled knots with more sapwood well distributed. Small filled cracks and dark streaks also stand out.

CD Rustic Grade

More economical timber selection allows for more grain and colour variation, with large sound knots and more filled knots well distributed. Small filled cracks and dark streaks are also apparent.

Choosing the Right Finish V4 have three different finishes, affecting both the looks and functionality of your floor.

Lacquer

The top layer is spray coated with five primer coats and at least two top coats of Treffert aluminium oxide lacquer which is UV cured. The finish can range from matt to gloss. The result is a smooth hard wearing and low maintenance surface which enhances the natural grain and beauty of the wood.

Care: Avoid scratches by minimizing surface dust and grit. Install matting and sweep/ vacuum regularly. Furniture should be protected with felt pads.

Note: A spray lacquer cleaner is recommended to avoid using too much water.

Natural Oil

Up to four coats of natural WOCA oil are applied by rollers, each coat is buffed into the top layer permeating the grain and adding a matt sheen to the surface which is then left to cure. This finish is the most natural of any, creating a deep lustre whilst maintaining a tactile surface.

Care: Keep the surface free from dust and grit and protect furniture with pads. Clean and condition the floor with natural oil soap to prolong its life between re-oiling.

Note: Natural oiled floors can benefit from a coat of maintenance oil on installation and should be maintained in the same way periodically.

UV Oil

Up to four coats of natural WOCA oil are applied by rollers and buffed into the top layer permeating the grain. Each coat is cured under ultra-violet light creating a slight satin sheen on the surface. This finish combines the natural lustre of the oil with a tougher surface finish.

Care: Keep the surface free from dust and grit and protect furniture with pads. Clean and condition the floor with natural oil soap to prolong its life between re-oiling.

Note: UV oiled floors will not need a coat of oil on installation but should be treated with maintenance oil periodically depending on usage.

The V4 Collection consists of many different finishes, ranging from precision machined smooth sanding and modern staining processes, to the hand rendered distressing and scraping done by skilled carpenters using traditional hand tools and centuries old techniques. Each process gives a board its individual characteristic.

These techniques include Brushed, Hand Scraped, Distressed, Stained, Smoked and Carbonised - please ask our expert advice to ensure the right product for your personal wants and needs, we are here to help.
